The Assam Police on Monday said it has invited a few eminent members of civil society to discuss the final post-mortem report, including the viscera findings, of singer Zubeen Garg, who suddenly passed away in Singapore last month, per a Deccan Herald report.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta clarified that the report will not be made public but will be shared privately with select individuals.

“It is wrong that we are going to make the final post-mortem report public. We have invited a few eminent members of the civil society tomorrow at 4 pm. We will give them an update and show it to them,” Gupta said.

He, however, did not name the invitees, adding that the final post-mortem and viscera analysis “will be presented before the court in due course of time.”

Probe and public emotion

The 52-year-old famous singer died under mysterious circumstances on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore, where he had traveled to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival. Following his death, over 60 FIRs were filed across Assam, prompting the government to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that investigators have found a “definite angle” after receiving the viscera report. “The forensic report has given a clear direction in Zubeen Garg death case,” he said.

Garg’s viscera sample, collected during a second post-mortem at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on September 23, was sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL) in Delhi for detailed testing. The first autopsy was conducted in Singapore soon after his death.
