The High-Level Committee (HLC) at the Centre has approved extra financial assistance to the two states, drawing from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), while adjusting 50% of the opening balance from their State Disaster Response Funds (SDRF). Of the total, ₹313.69 crore is for Assam and ₹394.28 crore for Gujarat, according to an ANI report.
"This Central assistance has been provided from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), subject to an adjustment of 50 per cent of the opening balance for the year available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)," the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement, as per ANI.
This relief is over and above earlier allocations made under the SDRF that have already been disbursed. The move reinforces the Centre’s commitment to supporting states during natural disasters under PM Modi’s leadership, as stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In the same HLC meeting, approval was given for ₹903.67 crore for fire services expansion and modernisation in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Out of that, ₹676.33 crore will be Central assistance.
Broader support under disaster funds
For the financial year 2025-26, the Centre has already released ₹13,603.20 crore to 27 states under SDRF and ₹2,024.04 crore to 12 states under NDRF. In addition, ₹4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) and ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) have been released to various states.
The approved funds for Assam and Gujarat aim to help restore damaged infrastructure, repair roads, rebuild embankments, and rehabilitate affected communities.
