Indian Army opens first-ever café at Mayudia Pass, Arunachal Pradesh

The Indian Army’s Dao Division has opened the first-ever café at the scenic Mayudia Pass in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district on Saturday,23 August, marking a milestone in civil-military relations and community development.

August 25, Monday: The first-ever cafe by the Indian Army was opened at the Mayudia Pass on Saturday, 23 August. The initiative is taken by the Dao division of the Indian Army. Located in the Lower Dibang Valley district of the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, it represents an achievement in civil-military relations and community development. The newly opened Mayudia Cafe will be a place where travellers would like to stop over. On the other hand, at the same time, it will be a pedestal for local cultural and economic ascendancy, the defence communique issued here on Sunday said

Indian Army builds a 'warm haven' for locals and jawans at Mayudia Pass

The inauguration of the bridge was done by the General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Dao Division in the presence of Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Fwwrman Brahma, local people, and the troops of Spear Corps. There was not even a makeshift food joint in Mayudia Pass, a point famous for its picturesque Himalayan vista and strategically important.

In the gap left by this exodus enters the café, not only filling this gap but symbolises the Army’s commitment to supporting grassroots needs, promoting entrepreneurship, and building connections with the local community.

The initiative and the soldiers behind it were appreciated by Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu in a social media post. “The Indian Army opened the doors to ‘Mayudia Cafe,’ a small space in the high Himalayas that offers warmth in every sense of the word. Built by 10 Mahar and 12 Engineers, this cafe will serve as a warm haven for civilians and jawans, blending comfort with the charm of the Himalayas,” Khandu said in a post on X, he thanked General Officer Commanding,” Special thanks to GOC 2nd Mtn Div Maj Gen V.S. Deshpande for presiding over the inauguration virtually and to all dignitaries and locals who graced the occasion.” CM Pema Khandu encouraged travellers to stop by at least once while travelling.
