A major scare was reported on an IndiGo aircraft when the pilot detected a crack in the windshield moments before landing in Chennai on Saturday. The flight was carrying 76 passengers from Madurai, landed safely after the pilot alerted Air Traffic Control beforehand.

Airport authorities said emergency arrangements were made immediately after receiving the alert. The aircraft was moved to a separate bay (Bay No. 95) after landing, and all passengers travelled safely.

IndiGo officials confirmed that the damaged windshield is being replaced and that the return flight to Madurai has been cancelled. The cause of the crack is yet to be determined, they added.

Meanwhile, IndiGo, in a statement to PTI, did not mention the cracks in the windshield and only said the aircraft had been grounded for "maintenance requirements".

An IndiGo spokesperson said, "A maintenance requirement was noticed on IndiGo flight 6E 7253, operating from Madurai to Chennai on October 10, 2025, before landing at its destination".

The statement follows, "Following standard operating procedures, the aircraft landed safely in Chennai and will resume operations only after necessary checks and clearances”.
