Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma voiced concern over the dwindling number of Mizo youth who pass exams for government jobs, even under the state.

Frustration over exam performance, call for ambition

Addressing the Mizo Students’ Union in Hnahthial, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma lamented that “educated Mizo youth are increasingly failing to crack exams and get jobs even under the state government.”

Speaking at a student union meeting, he urged greater effort and diversification toward entrepreneurship, and announced several reforms and support measures, according to PTI News.

He expressed disappointment that few students applied to the recent BSF mass recruitment rally, and urged the youth to work harder, aim higher, and not rely solely on government employment.

"It is a serious concern that the Mizos students fail to clear exams and get jobs even under the state government. This shows and teaches us that we should work harder and put more effort," Lalduhoma was quoted as saying.

He also encouraged students to consider entrepreneurship as an alternative career path. Lalduhoma suggested that enrolling in reputed central government schools such as EMRS (Eklavya Model Residential Schools) and JNVs (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas) could strengthen their academic foundation.

To boost morale and opportunity, the CM announced that a budget allocation would be made in the next fiscal year to support educational study tours for students.

In a bid to offer more transparent opportunities, Mizoram will now issue direct recruitment advertisements for state government jobs. Selected candidates under this new scheme will also have the possibility of regularisation into permanent positions.

Lalduhoma further revealed that the current Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government has already approved 2,087 job vacancies to be filled via direct recruitment.
