National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has provided a special incentive to highway users to report unhygienic toilet facilities at toll plazas. In its recent cleanliness drive, users can get a ₹1,000 recharge in their FASTag account for reporting dirty toilets, to bring up the sanitation standards on national highways. The reward scheme will be valid until October 31, 2025, news agency PTI said.
Step-by-step guide to receiving your ₹1,000 FASTag recharge
- To be a participant, users must-
- Download the current version of the 'Rajmargyatra' app and post geo-tagged photographs of dirty toilets.
- Along with the photo, users should provide the name, place, VRN, and mobile number.
- Every VRN reporting on a dirty toilet shall be entitled to a ₹1,000 FASTag recharge, which shall be credited directly into the associated VRN.
- The reward is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
Eligibility and coverage
The scheme applies to all toilets built, managed, or maintained under the authority of NHAI. Toilets at dhabas, retail outlets, or other public sites outside the control of NHAI are not covered. Also, a toilet facility can receive only a single reward per day, regardless of the frequency of reports. In the event of repeated submissions for the same spot on the same day, the first valid report through the Rajmargyatra app will be eligible.
Submission guidelines and verification
Reports should be accompanied by geo-tagged, time-stamped, and clear images taken using the app. Duplicate, manipulated, or already reported images will be disqualified. Entries will be verified through a mix of AI-enabled screening and manual verification where necessary.
Encouraging cleaner highways
Through this scheme, NHAI intends to promote responsible highway driving as well as better sanitation for crores of travelers on India's national highways.
