Telangana bus-truck collision kills 20 on Hyderabad-Bijapur highway; PM Modi announces ₹2 lakh ex gratia

A fatal crash between a TSRTC bus and a tipper truck on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway claimed 20 lives and injured several others.

A deadly collision between a tipper truck and a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus claimed at least 20 lives and left several others injured early morning on Monday, November 3. The horrific accident occurred around 6:30 AM on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal, Rangareddy district. The TSRTC bus was carrying approax 70 passengers; it was from the Tandur depot and en route to Hyderabad.

As per a report by Times of India, Rajendranagar DCP Yogesh Goutam said, “The truck was in the right lane when it crashed into the bus. We have to verify whether the accident occurred while the truck driver was attempting to overtake or if he was driving in the wrong direction.”

The collision was so grave that the front of the bus was completely crushed. The tipper truck hit the bus, and its entire load of gravel, unfortunately, fell onto the passengers, crushing many sitting in the front rows. Both the truck drivers and the passengers in the bus were deceased, which included 10 women, a 10-month-old baby, and her mother.

The injured were primarily taken to the Chevella Government Hospital, where at least three were in critical condition. The remaining survivors who needed advanced medical care were being transferred to Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the officials should arrange for the insurance from Telangana State Road Transport Corporation in the event of the accident, and besides that, measures need to be taken to provide reassurance to the families of the victims, as mentioned in a report by The Hindu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces ex gratia for victims

According to the report by the Times of India, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) responded to the tragedy, announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakhs to be released from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, and ₹50,000 for those injured in the accident.
