A head-on collision between a truck and a bus has resulted in the death of five passengers. At least 17 others have been injured in the accident. The incident occurred in Odisha's Sundargarh district.
According to police sources, the tragic accident took place on Thursday in the K Balang police station area of Bonai subdivision. The collision occurred near Sanambudur on National Highway 520, where a Kodiagama-bound bus collided head-on with a truck.
The site of the accident is merely 2 kilometers away from the K Balang police station.
Brijesh Kumar Rai, DIG of Rourkela, has reported that five individuals, including three women, have lost their lives in this accident. Seventeen people, including the truck driver, have been injured. Among the injured, six are in critical condition. The wounded have been rushed to hospitals in Rourkela for treatment.
Sources reveal that the bus had erroneously entered the wrong side of the national highway. It was attempting to merge directly onto the highway from the incorrect direction. Reports suggest that the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle in front of a roadside dhaba on the national highway when it collided with the truck.
The impact of the collision severely damaged the front portion of the bus. The bus became so entangled with the truck that passengers couldn't exit through the doors. Police and local residents eventually managed to rescue the trapped passengers.
Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased in this tragic incident.
