Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across Uttar Pradesh as the state faces an intense heatwave and a sharp rise in power demand. The chief minister reportedly directed the energy department to increase power generation capacity and operate all units at full efficiency to avoid outages during peak summer conditions.
The review meeting comes at a time when several northern states are witnessing extremely high temperatures, leading to increased electricity consumption for cooling and water needs. Reports stated that Uttar Pradesh recorded a peak electricity demand of over 30,339 MW this season due to the ongoing heatwave.
Power demand rises across Uttar Pradesh
As per Hindustan Times, quoted in their report, officials said electricity demand in the state increased significantly during April and May as temperatures continued to rise. According to reports, daily demand reportedly jumped from around 501 million units to 561 million units during the heatwave period.

As per Hindustan Times, the government has now directed power corporations and distribution companies to maintain a stable supply in both urban and rural areas. Monitoring systems and infrastructure checks are also being strengthened to reduce disruptions during peak demand hours.
Heatwave adds pressure on power infrastructure
Reports of Hindustan Times noted that ongoing heatwave conditions have placed additional stress on the state’s electricity infrastructure. Residents in some areas reportedly complained about power cuts and supply interruptions as temperatures crossed dangerous levels.

According to the reports of Hindustan Times, the authorities stated that transformers, feeders, and transmission systems are being monitored closely to prevent breakdowns. The state government has also reportedly prioritised uninterrupted electricity for hospitals, water supply systems, and essential public services.
Government focuses on summer preparedness
According to the reports of Hindustan Times, the Uttar Pradesh government has been reviewing heatwave preparedness measures across districts in recent days. Apart from electricity supply, officials were also instructed to ensure proper water supply, healthcare readiness, and emergency response systems during the extreme weather conditions
Uttar Pradesh is aiming to strengthen power supply arrangements further as demand is expected to continue rising through the summer season.
