The latest trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) indicate that All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) is leading in six Assembly constituencies across Bihar. It is leading in Jokihat, Kochadhaman, Amour, Baisi, Thakurganj, and Bahadurganj.

Seats with continued dominance

AIMIM also secured four constituencies: Jokihat, Kochadhaman, Amour, and Baisi in the 2020 Assembly elections. The retention of these seats underlines the consistency of the party's support base in key pockets of Bihar.

AIMIM's push to expand beyond its core base

As per a report by the Economic Times, after being excluded from the INDIA bloc, the party president, Asaduddin Owaisi, turned his attention to Bihar, declaring that it would contest 100 seats. The AIMIM finally fielded 25 candidates, including two non-Muslims, with the hope of shedding its Seemanchal tag and reaching out beyond. Though AIMIM won five seats in 2020, four MLAs afterwards joined the RJD, and only Akhtarul Iman from Amour remained with the party. His current lead reinforces AIMIM's hold on its core belt.

What does this mean for AIMIM?

As per the report, the good showing by the party highlights its resilience and potential to recover lost ground after past defections weakened its legislative presence. Diversifying its candidate profile with an appeal to regional voters, AIMIM seems to consolidate support in key constituencies. Until the counting of votes is over, the performance of the party in these six seats will remain one of the big storylines of the 2025 Bihar Assembly election.
