The Maharashtra Election Commission is expected to announce the dates for the long-awaited Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other local body elections on Tuesday. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare will hold a press conference in Mumbai at 4 pm to make the announcement.
The development comes amid demands from the opposition to postpone the elections, alleging irregularities in the voter list. The opposition claimed that the electoral roll dated July 1 contained duplicate and bogus names. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has said it plans to approach the court with evidence. However, election officials have clarified that once the poll process begins, court intervention would be difficult.
