Actor and founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, has alleged a conspiracy behind the stampede incident at the party's Karur rally. Claims have emerged that the electricity connection was severed during his address. Now, Rajlakshmi, the Chief Engineer of 'The Tamil Nadu Electricity' Board (TNEB), has made a significant statement on this matter. She asserts that the power supply was not disconnected when Vijay was delivering his speech.
However, it has been revealed that the TVK West President had submitted a request to TNEB on September 26, asking for the power supply to be cut off during Vijay's speech. This request was not granted. The TVK had apparently made this appeal keeping in mind the safety of the general public during Vijay's address.
Rajlakshmi said, "All images clearly show that the lights were on. The focus lights arranged by the generators and organizers were shut off due to the massive crowd."
Notably, TVK had claimed that the electricity connection was severed as soon as Vijay arrived at the venue. The Tamil Nadu administration also stated on Monday that the power supply was not disconnected at the meeting. Some lights had dimmed due to issues with the generator arranged by TVK.
For context, a TVK rally organized by founder Vijay was held in Karur last Saturday. A multitude of people had gathered to catch a glimpse of him. He was scheduled to arrive in the afternoon but reached there considerably late, causing the crowd to swell further. A frantic rush ensued as people tried to get a look at Vijay. During this commotion, 40 people lost their lives in the stampede.
