27 August, Wednesday: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray visited MNS chief Raj Thackeray's home for Ganpati darshan on Wednesday, 27th August. Sena (UBT) functionaries said Raj called Uddhav and invited him for Ganpati darshan during this Ganesh festival. Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut will also visit Raj Thackeray's home.
As the myth goes, the Lord Ganesha makes every hurdle easier and clears out obstacles in life. It seems on this occasion the Thackeray family is getting close.
This may be another example of the two cousins showing their camaraderie while discussing the prospect of them joining forces for the municipal elections. To wish his big brother Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray a happy birthday Raj traveled to Matoshree, the Thackeray house in Bandra East in July. In the broader framework of Maharashtra politics which is still dominated by Sena leader Bal Thackeray decades after his passing, Raj Thackerays visit was significant. They celebrated a public show of strength and solidarity on one of the holiest of days.
But it was not monumental, for Raj Thackeray, as he broke his 13-year distance from Matoshree in July. Uddhav Thackeray and his family was seen worshipping the lord Ganesh in a video on X (formerly Twitter)
When Bal Thackeray passed away in November 2005 the cousins parted ways. For votes and the Sena legacy they fought each other for the next 20 years. However, the son of Bal Thackeray Uddhav was always regarded as the heir chief.
The frost only started to melt under the current administration which is headed by Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP and the now-revoked decree requiring Marathi instruction for students in Classes I through V. The reunion gained momentum after the cousins declared their intention to run in the highly publicized Mumbai civic election and jointly claimed responsibility for pressuring the government to recall that order.
