Karur stampede: Vijay Thalapathy’s TVK reached out to help victim’s family with rupees 20 lakh aid

Earlier TVK had announced to lend a helping hand to the families who were victimised in the Karur stampede. Vijay expressed his sorrow through letters and extended his support.

On September 27, 2025, a deadly crowd crush (a stampede) happened at a public rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The rally was held by the TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam). Tragically, 41 people died, including women and children, and many others were hurt.

TVK is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry, headquarters located in Chennai. Vijay Thalapathi, a South Indian actor formed the political party on February 2, 2024.

Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, also known as Vijay Thalapathy (Thalapathy meaning commander) is a South Indian actor and Indian politician, born on 22 June, 1974. He acted in 68 films and is one of the most successful actors in Telugu film industry

TVK’s financial assistance

According to The Hindu, Joeph Vijay Chandrasekhar, actor and founder of TVK, said in a letter to Sathivel, a resident of Emoor Pudhur village who lost his wife and teenage daughter in the Karur stampede, that, “We will stand by you in every way during this difficult time.”

On September 28, Vijay announced an aid of rupees 20 lakh for the family of each person who lost their lives in the stampede and rupees 2 lakh for each injured individual.

The aid was reportedly transferred to the bank accounts of the victims’ families on or around October 18, 2025, nearly three weeks after the September 27, tragedy

One recipient, Sakthivel, who lost his wife and 14-year-old daughter in the tragedy, confirmed receiving the letter and the funds, cited The Hindu.

The party is giving this money while the state is still recovering from the sad event. An investigation into the stampede is now being handled by the CBI, following an order from the Supreme Court. This is separate from the ₹10 lakh each family already received from the state government.
