2nd September, Tuesday: Prime Minister Narendra Modi breaks his silence after some unidentified people abuse the PM’s late mother. Addressing the controversy, Narendra Modi calls it painful. The controversy starts after a video went viral during Congress-RJD’s “voter adhikar yatra” in Bihar. Recalling the incident, PM Modi stated that it was not only an insult to his mother but to all mothers.

These remarks were made on September 2, 2025, when PM Modi virtually inaugurated the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Saakhari Sangh Limited.

According to reports, PM Modi’s voice cracked during the emotional address. “My mother separated me from her so that I could serve crores of mothers like you. You all know that my mother is not alive. Some time ago, after turning 100 years of age, she left us all. That mother of mine, who has nothing to do with politics, who is no more, was abused from the stage of the RJD, Congress,” PM Modi said on Tuesday.

"What was that mother's fault?" For people who disparage "Mother India," hurling insults at my mother is insignificant. PM Modi said that such individuals must be punished.

PM Modi recalled how his mother reared him and the family in abject poverty, saying she would "never buy a new saree for herself and would save every penny for our family, instead."

Modi also condemned the incident as disrespectful to women.

Taking a dig at RJD’s leader, Tejashwi Yadav, PM Modi called him Yuvraj and stated that the people who are born with a golden spoon can never really understand the struggle of a poor family.

The footage, which has gone viral, appears to be from Darbhanga district, where the yatra began on Wednesday morning last week, when Gandhi, his sister, and Congress national secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav headed for Muzaffarpur by motorcycle. However, Ei Samay English Digital didn’t verify the authenticity of the video.
