The BJP’s Punjab unit accused the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of misleading flood-affected people by failing to deliver on its promise of compensation, warning of a state-wide agitation if aid is not released soon.

BJP accuses Mann government of betraying people’s trust

The Punjab BJP on Wednesday came down heavily on the Aam Aadmi Party government, claiming it has “failed to fulfil its promise” of compensating families and farmers affected by this year’s floods.

BJP vice-president Subhash Sharma said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced on September 12 that affected farmers would receive ₹20,000 per acre within 45 days. “More than 45 days have passed, yet most families have not received a single rupee,” Sharma said, accusing the government of making empty announcements while “doing nothing at the ground level.” He added that despite repeated claims by the state about completing crop loss assessments, “no substantial relief” has reached farmers in the worst-hit districts of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Amritsar, as per PTI.

Calling the situation “deeply unjust,” Sharma said the government has “betrayed the people’s trust” and ignored the plight of those who lost crops and homes. “Farmers are in dire need of help to buy seeds and fertilisers, rebuild houses, and clear sand left by floodwaters,” he said.

The BJP demanded that the government immediately complete pending crop assessments and deposit compensation directly into the accounts of affected families. Sharma warned that if the AAP government “continues to evade its responsibility,” the BJP, along with the public, will launch a state-wide agitation. He further alleged that while many homes remain in ruins, the Mann government remains focused on “publicity and showmanship” instead of providing real relief to those suffering.
