Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday accused the AIADMK of playing a “political drama” by seeking to be impleaded in the DMK’s plea against the SIR in the Supreme Court, alleging that the opposition party continues to act under BJP’s influence.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin launched a sharp attack on the opposition AIADMK on Monday, accusing it of enacting a “deceitful drama” by moving the Supreme Court to be impleaded in the DMK’s ongoing petition challenging the SIR (Standardisation of Information Report).

Stalin alleged that AIADMK’s move was not driven by principle but by “servility” to the BJP. “Edappadi K Palaniswami must say ‘yes-sir’ to his big boss in Delhi,” Stalin said while addressing a public function in Tiruchirappalli. He charged that the BJP was using central agencies such as the Income Tax Department and the CBI to intimidate political opponents.

“The Centre believes it can destroy the DMK using the SIR as a weapon. This may work in other states, but not in Tamil Nadu,” the Chief Minister declared, drawing loud cheers from the audience.

The Chief Minister questioned why the AIADMK had sought to join the case only now, instead of filing its own petition earlier if it was truly opposed to the SIR. “They have no courage to take an independent stand. They support whatever the BJP and the Election Commission say,” Stalin said.

He alleged that the AIADMK’s petition was meant to support the deployment of Booth Level Agents (BLA2), who are party workers trained to assist Booth Level Officers. “This is the truth, and this plan too will not work,” he said.

‘DMK always active, never intimidated’

Highlighting the DMK’s grassroots work, Stalin said the party has remained active for over 75 years, regardless of being in power or opposition. Under his “Udanpirappey Va” (Brother, Come) outreach programme, he has already interacted with functionaries across 80 Assembly constituencies and aims to cover all 234 soon.

Reiterating the DMK’s commitment to fighting the SIR, Stalin said both he and his party cadres remain undeterred by “new tactics” adopted by rivals.
