Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday. She condemned Sarma for attacking Gaurav Gogoi over supposed Pakistan links and for involving Gogoi's family.

Gandhi suggested Sarma is unsettled by the positive politics of the Congress party. After paying respects to the well-known singer Zubeen Garg at his cremation site, 'Zubeen Khetra', in Sonapur, near Guwahati, Gandhi spoke to reporters. She was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle, "In politics, we have two types of leaders: those who practice positive politics and those who depend on polarisation and personal attacks."

'This kind of politics is wrong'

She was further quoted as saying, "The way Gaurav ji (Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi) and his family are being targeted proves that this kind of politics is wrong. I think the people of Assam know that the other side is rattled by him. This is the reason why all this is happening. It is because he is walking on the right path, he is being attacked...It is like a badge of honour."

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra further said, "Nobody should attack the family and children (of a political leader."

Regrets divisive politics

Regretting the divisive politics, she stated that the chief minister should focus on the youth and women in the state who are seeking jobs.

"You can see how much corruption is happening. It is a betrayal of the people of the state," she told reporters. Gandhi's comments came during an ongoing political campaign by the BJP in Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has repeatedly claimed that Gogoi and his wife have ties to Pakistan.

Sarma recently shared a report from the Special Investigation Team of the Assam police. This report accused Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and his wife of having connections with anti-India groups in Pakistan. After honoring singer Zubeen Garg, Gandhi praised his work, saying that the singer was "above politics" and spread a message of love throughout his life.
