Nitish Kumar appears poised to take oath as Bihar chief minister for the tenth time, with the NDA comfortably ahead while the Mahagathbandhan falls far behind in ongoing vote counting.

Polling took place in two phases, on 6 and 11 November, recording a historic 67.13 % voter turnout—the highest since 1951.

Earlier, posters reading ‘Tiger abhi zinda hai’ were seen across Bihar. Despite health concerns, Nitish Kumar’s strong performance and his ability to single-handedly steer the NDA toward victory have reinforced his image as a political fighter and election strategist.

The RJD, which was the single largest party in 2020, is facing a disappointing outcome this time, leading in only 24 seats. However, NDTV reports that despite trailing in seats, the Tejashwi Yadav-led party has secured more votes overall than its main rivals—the BJP and JD(U).

Nine hours into counting

BJP leads in 93 constituencies, JD(U) in 83, RJD in 27, and LJPRV in 19.

Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc’s CM face, Tejashwi Yadav, is trailing in the RJD stronghold of Raghopur, where BJP’s Satish Kumar holds a lead of 7,493 votes. At Alinagar, Maithali Thakur is ahead with 74,885 votes. On the other hand, Tejashwi Yadav is now leading with 103387 votes.

Amid this Bihar vote counting, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari hailed NDA's big win in Bihar and exuded confidence that the same will be repeated in the state, "Bihar ki jeet hamari hai, ab Bengali ki baari hai.”

"Ek hi slogan hai- Bihar ki jeet hamari hai, ab Bengal ki baari hai, There is only one slogan - Bihar's victory is ours, now it is Bengal's turn...," he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the people of Bihar, especially women voters, that the National Democratic Alliance will honour the mandate with even greater dedication under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah wrote on X (formerly Twitter) , "Every single vote of the people of Bihar is a symbol of faith in the Modi government's policy against infiltrators who play with India's security and resources, and their sympathisers. The public has given a befitting reply to those who protect infiltrators for the sake of vote banks. The people of Bihar have conveyed the mood of the entire country that the purification of the voter list is mandatory, and there is no place for politics against it. That is why, under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, the Congress party has reached the last position in Bihar today".
