In a move to align with the city’s renamed identity, the Maharashtra government has officially renamed the Aurangabad railway station as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station through a gazette notification. The change reflects the city’s renaming to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and marks a fresh step in adopting the new nomenclature.

The state government issued the gazette notification on October 15, formally changing the name of the Aurangabad railway station to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station. The city itself had been renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) following a government decision and Centre’s approval earlier. The station lies on the Kacheguda–Manmad section under the Nanded division of the South Central Railway zone and has been a key transport hub since 1900.

This change is reportedly part of broader efforts to update public infrastructure and administrative records to reflect the new name. Local authorities will now ensure that signage, ticketing systems and station records carry the revised title.

Aurangabad railway station was opened during the period of the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. Its renaming comes nearly three years after the state renamed the city to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. While the notification has been issued, it may take some time for all operational changes to appear, from station code updates to digital platforms and announcements.
