Bangalore–Pune Highway Accident: Container vehicles crush passenger vehicle; fire erupts burning 7 to death

Seven people died after a truck lost control and triggered a multi-vehicle collision and massive fire on the Bangalore–Pune highway, leading to charred bodies being recovered.

A devastating accident cost 7 lives on the Bangalore - Pune highway on Thursday evening. The incident took place around 6 PM when a truck lost control and hit another truck, crushing a passenger vehicle, followed by a fire, killing all the passengers of 2 of the vehicles involved in the accident.

Among the casualties, 2 males, 2 females and a child who were in the passenger vehicle. Upon collision, a huge fire erupted, engulfing the passengers of both vehicles. The fire department later recovered the charred bodies of all the casualties from the scene.

Upon receiving the news, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) fire department sent 10 fire trucks at the location. Firefighters and trucks from four fire stations from the surrounding area reached the location. Around 60-70 firefighters reached the location to bring the fire under control.

The Chief Fire Officer of Pune Fire Department, Devendra Potfode stated in an official statement r, "Around 5:45-6:00 pm, our fire control room received information about an accident and fire near the Navale Bridge. Upon reaching the spot, it was found that a large truck, which had just come out of the Katraj Tunnel, went out of control and hit several vehicles before moving ahead. A total of 7 people have died in the incident," according to ANI.

The container truck that went out of control and hit nearly 20 vehicles on its way before ending up in the accident by hitting another container truck, was en route to Mumbai from Satara, as reported by the Mid-Day.

The Pune Fire Department later recovered the crushed vehicle from between the containers, resuming normalcy in the traffic movement on the highway.
