India has the right to get a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council; such remarks were heard on Thursday from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer who came on a visit to India. Keir met with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai on Thursday. After that, in a statement, Keir said, "India is a global player. We sit together in the Commonwealth, G20. We want to see India in their rightful position in the UN Security Council as well."

The demand for India's permanent seat in the UN Security Council has been raised for a long time. In the past few months, America, Germany, France, African Union, Japan and Brazil have nominated India's name for this permanent seat. Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also announced that his country wants more representation of Asia, Africa and Latin America in the UN Security Council. So, they are in favor of India's permanent seat. Currently, among Asian countries, only China has permanent membership in the Security Council.

However, not only the permanent seat in the Security Council, Khalistani separatism was also discussed between them. After the Modi-Keir meeting on Thursday, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, "Prime Minister Modi and PM Starmer discussed Khalistani separatism. Prime Minister Modi strongly conveyed that fundamentalism and violent separatism have no place in democratic systems. Using freedom of speech to allow such fundamentalism or separatism to continue is also not appropriate. Instead, legal action should be taken against it."

Incidentally, Khalistani unrest has increased in Britain as well as Canada in the past few months. In March 2023, Khalistanis attacked the Indian High Commission in London. In this situation, Modi's Khalistani message in the meeting with Starmer is significant.
