Panic swept through the crowd as a sudden blast near Delhi’s Red Fort sent people running in terror.

A powerful blast near Delhi's historic Red Fort on Monday evening left at least eight people dead and over 20 injured, triggering chaos in the busy Subhash Marg area. The explosion, which ripped through a parked Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort metro station, sent shockwaves across the capital.

CCTV footage captures chaos and fear moments

Fresh CCTV footage that emerged on social media shows people running in panic moments after the blast. In a video shared by news agency PTI, the intensity of the blast and the confusion in the aftermath as bystanders fled to safety could be seen. The clip shows people scrambling away from the site with fear and disbelief on their faces.

Two men in custody for questioning

As per a report by the Hindustan Times, sources in the Delhi Police said that the police have detained two men in connection with the incident. They are identified as Salman and Devender, both previous owners of the Hyundai i20 car. The ownership history of the vehicle is now being traced by the authorities to establish whether the blast was accidental or deliberate.

Investigators so far have not linked the explosion to any terror activity. Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that all possible angles are being examined, adding further that the investigation is being conducted, “taking all possibilities into account”; the results will be presented before the public.

As per the reports, samples have been collected to identify the type of explosive used in the blast. The police are also scanning CCTV footage of nearby areas and examining eyewitness accounts to reconstruct the events that preceded the blast. Security has been tightened around the Red Fort and adjoining localities as the investigation continues.
