A major terrorist attack plot has been leaked in the capital of India. On Friday morning, October 24, Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested two suspected Pakistan-backed ISIS terrorists. They had planned to carry out explosions at a popular mall and a park in South Delhi. Several documents, explosives, and electronic equipment have been seized from their possession.
Investigators said the two arrested militants claimed to be Adnan. One is a resident of Delhi's Sadiq Nagar. Another is from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. They were arrested in the raids in Delhi and Bhopal.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Kumar Kushwaha said, “Two people, including 20-year-old Adnan Khan alias Abu Muharib from Delhi and 21-year-old Adnan Khan from Bhopal, who was studying chartered accountancy, were arrested on 16th and 18th October. They were planning to plant and blast an IED in a heavily footfall area.”
Timer device, ISIS flag seized
Additional CP also added, “They wanted to carry out a terror activity around Diwali. We recovered a timer, an ISIS flag, and literature, a laptop and pen drives, etc, from their possession. They tried to target a mall in South Delhi and a public park. They had made a group to share messages.”
Investigators said Adnan was first arrested in Sadiq Nagar on October 16. He was interrogated and found to be a resident of Bhopal. According to news agency ANI, both of them were training to carry out suicide attacks.
Affiliated with Pakistani spy agencies?
It is being investigated whether the suspects have any links with Pakistan's spy agency, ISI. In 2018, the Delhi Police arrested two IS terrorists for their alleged involvement in the terror attack. They were directly linked to the Abu Dhabi module, Asia's largest militant group. This is what the NIA had claimed in the chargesheet.
Most wanted militant arrested
Police have arrested two of the most wanted IS militants in the capital in the last five years. Mustakim Khan, alias Abu Yusuf, was arrested in 2020. Three years later, in 2023, the Delhi Police arrested Mohammed Shahnawaz, the head of ISIS's Pune module.
