A devastating explosion near Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening left at least eight people dead and several others in an injured condition, which made the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to issue a nationwide high alert. Security forces have been tightened across major installations, including airports, Delhi Metro, heritage sites, and government offices.
The blast occurred around 6:55 pm near Gate No. 1 of Lal Qila Metro Station, which triggered a massive fire that severally damaged several parked vehicles and caused panic in the area. While firefighters tried to put out the fire and save the injured, the emergency services rushed to the scene. The injured were then taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for treatment.

As per a NewsX report, eyewitnesses said they heard a loud explosion followed by heavy smoke and flames. “There was chaos everywhere, cars caught fire within seconds,” said one shopkeeper near the site.
Nationwide security tightened after explosion
After the incident, the CISF directed all security units to step up vigilance at sensitive locations. Airports, metro stations, and government buildings across Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow have been placed under high security. Vehicle checks, baggage screenings, and patrols have been intensified to prevent any further incidents.
According to officials, all CISF-controlled establishments are under strict surveillance, and coordination has been established with local police and intelligence agencies. Heritage sites, busy marketplaces, and transportation hubs are under high security surveillance.

A thorough investigation is being carried out by the Delhi Police team, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and forensic specialists. The area around Red Fort Metro Station has been sealed for now.
The Delhi Fire Department has about confirmed receiving an emergency call reporting “blast-like sounds” from the site and damage to nearby vehicles. As of now, the cause of the explosion remains under investigation and authorities have not yet confirmed about any terror links.
