A shocking incident has come to light in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections.
The incident has brought attention to the state's inadequate police behaviour and raised grave concerns about police conduct. A police sub-inspector was allegedly caught misbehaving and abusing his authority in a video that went viral on social media. He allegedly misbehaved in a Katihar district restaurant with a brother-sister duo. The entire event was captured on camera by the restaurant's CCTV system, and the footage is going viral on social media.
There are reports that the incident occurred in Katihar's Barsoi, when the brother-sister were having dinner inside the restaurant, and a few police officers approached them at the restaurant for a ‘routine inspection’ and allegedly abused the siblings.
What exactly happened?
According to the CCTV footage, which went viral on X, the young man answers that the woman is his sister when the sub-inspector and other police officers enter the restaurant and inquire about her. The officer angrily shouted and said, "Behen hai, toh aise kaahe bolta hai." He also said, "Bolne ka lehza theek nahi hai."(If she is your sister, then why do you speak like that?- The tone in which you speak is not appropriate.)
The young man then said, "Normal baat kiya aap chillane lage."(I said something normal and you started shouting.) The officer then said, "Chillane kya lage, behen hai, yeh koi tareeka nahi hai. Mera kaam hai puchna.”(Why are you shouting? She is your sister; this is not the way. It's my job to ask.)
He then said, "Garmi kam dikhao." ( Show less attitude). In reply to this, the man said, "Aap garmi dikha rahe hai."(You are showing attitude). After the woman begins to record the police officer on her phone, the officer becomes enraged and demands that she needs put down her phone and stop recording the incident altogether.
The police officer then asked their names and went on provoking them, abusing his authoritative powers.

Netizens react
Netizens have been outraged by the video, accusing the Bihar Police of abusing power. These incidents, according to many users, demonstrate how police misconduct continues to harm the common people. Social media users also questioned the government's commitment to citizen protection.
One user commented, "Bimar police explanation, thank god cctv footage was available else loot paat ka irada likh dete.”(Sick police explanation, thank God CCTV footage was available, otherwise they would have written it as an intention of robbery.)
Another commented, “Ek samay Aisa tha Jo log vardi dekhkar dur Se Hi dar ke bhagate the gaon mein crime kahin per bhi hun pura gaon Khali ho jata tha aaj ka samay aadhe Se jyada log samajhdar ho gaye hain Adhikar Apne pahchanne lag Gaye Hain ISI baat se ine log ko dikkat hota Hai”
There are no reports of any police action against the accused police officer in connection with the matter yet.
