Delhi is shaken by a massive car bomb explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday, November 10, leaving twelve people dead and several others injured. The shocking incident has triggered nationwide grief and outrage, as authorities launched a large-scale investigation into the tragedy.

Here’s a look at how the Red Fort blast unfolded

On November 10, a car exploded near the Red Fort in the national capital, causing widespread destruction. The powerful blast killed several bystanders instantly and reduced nearby vehicles to ashes. Following the explosion, Delhi Police launched an extensive investigation, conducting raids and setting up naka checks in multiple cities, including Delhi.

The explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 sports car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, opposite the main entrance of the historic monument. The car reportedly exploded at 6:52 pm while waiting at a red light. According to reports, three people were inside the vehicle at the time of the blast, which was of extreme intensity.

The impact was so severe that seven nearby vehicles were damaged and caught fire. Fire engines reached the site by 6:55 pm, and the flames were brought under control by 7:30 pm. As per India Today’s report, teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, along with personnel from the NSG, NIA, and forensic departments, promptly arrived to begin the investigation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site at around 9:25 pm, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families. Amit Shah later met Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and doctors at Lok Nayak Hospital to review the situation.

Investigations revealed that the car used in the blast was registered in Haryana. The Delhi Police have identified the car’s owner and are working with the Haryana Police to trace further leads. A Special Cell team has also departed for Haryana to assist in the investigation.

The Hyundai i20 was registered under the name of a man named Salman, who is now in police custody. During questioning, Salman stated that he had sold the car before the explosion took place.

Several individuals have been detained in connection with the case, including Dr. Muzamil, Dr. Adil, Dr. Omar and his mother, as well as Dr. Sajjad Ahmed from Pulwama. A woman identified as Dr. Shaheen has also been arrested, while the mobile phones of twelve people associated with Omar have been seized for examination.

The probe into the Red Fort blast has now been officially handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

According to Delhi Police, CCTV footage captured the suspect’s car entering and exiting a nearby parking area, confirming that the driver was alone. A case has been filed under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited LNJP Hospital to meet the injured victims, he posted on this X, assuring that those responsible “will be brought to justice.” Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced compensation of ₹10 lakh for the deceased, ₹5 lakh for the disabled, and ₹2 lakh for the injured.
