A solo female traveller touring eight Indian cities gave Kerala a top score of 9/10, describing it as the safest, cleanest and most respectful state in the country—a strong endorsement for the state’s efforts to boost tourism and women-friendly policies.
Travelling solo across eight Indian destinations, the foreign traveller, named Emma, highlighted her journey from the capital Delhi to Kerala, and found the latter markedly different. She said, “Kerala is the calmest, cleanest, and most respectful state I have visited. Locals are polite, transport feels safe, and the vibe is completely different,” according to a Mathrubhumi report.

In her Instagram post, she gave Kerala a 9 out of 10 rating, citing safe public transport, warm local interaction and the cleanliness of both cities and villages. Meanwhile, other north Indian cities in her tour received far lower scores, reinforcing the idea that safety and comfort vary widely across India, says PTI.
Tourism boost and women-friendly push
The state’s tourism department says Emma’s endorsement comes at a time when Kerala is positioning itself as a global destination for women travellers. Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas said: "Kerala Tourism has, of late, rolled out several women-friendly initiatives that have received praise from both foreign and domestic tourists. These comments further strengthen our confidence in such initiatives.”
