Temperature is gradually dropping in the nation's capital, Delhi. On Saturday, the capital's minimum temperature was 9.7℃, which is 3.8℃ lower than normal. For the first time this season, Delhi's minimum temperature dropped below 10℃. Along with the mercury drop, concerns are growing about the capital's air quality.
After Delhi's air quality remained in the 'severe' category for several consecutive days, Delhi saw a slight improvement on Friday. Delhi's AQI was 387 on Friday and 386 on Saturday. This means it has come down to the 'very poor' category. The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune has reported that one of the main causes of Delhi's pollution is smoke from stubble burning coming from neighbouring states.
Experts have said that Delhi's air quality has improved only marginally. However, concerns have not subsided yet. The air in multiple areas of the capital remains extremely toxic. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, on Saturday, Bawana had the highest AQI of 443, while Wazirpur's AQI was 434.
According to CPCB data, if AQI remains between 401 to 500, that air is called 'severe'. 300 to 400 is 'very poor', 201 to 300 is 'poor'. 101 to 200 is 'moderate', 51 to 100 is called 'satisfactory' and 0 to 50 is called 'good'.
