Rohit Arya, the man accused of holding 17 children hostage in Mumbai’s Powai area on Thursday, has died after being injured in a gunfire exchange with police.

He was rushed to a hospital with gunshot wounds in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The tense standoff unfolded inside a small film studio named RA Studios, where Arya had allegedly invited a group of children under the pretext of conducting an “audition.” Authorities said the children, aged between 8 and 14, were held captive for nearly two hours before being safely rescued.

Seventeen children who had come for a film audition in the Powai area of Mumbai were rescued on Thursday after being held hostage by a man, who in a chilling video message identified himself as Rohit Arya and warned the authorities "not to trigger" him. The accused was arrested after a swift police operation that ended the tense standoff.

As NDTV reports, the officials said, the children had gathered at RA Studios, situated on the ground floor of a residential building, when the suspect locked them inside. Mumbai Police acted swiftly after Arya's video went online to ensure all children were evacuated safely within hours.
