Indian Army’s Northern Command held a tri-service exercise which involved the usage and understanding of high-tech warfare. Over the exercise period, troops and commanders were challenged with simulated threats such as cyber intrusions, spectrum saturation, electronic jamming, spoofing and cognitive attacks.

The event saw active participation by the Army, Navy, Air Force, central agencies and even private defence industry firms, signalling a shift toward integrated operational readiness.

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Northern Army Commander, said, "In modern warfare, the lines are blurring between domains, so we need to leverage niche technology and keep innovating. A whole-of-nation approach is required to protect our territorial integrity and critical assets and also unleash punitive action on the adversary if the situation so demands.”

Industry insiders flagged the role of indigenous defence firms as an important step toward “aatmanirbarta” (self-reliance) and innovation in national defence.

The Northern Command is tasked with safeguarding sensitive frontiers, including the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The exercise underscored its readiness for the complex terrain and evolving threat matrix.

A key highlight was the emphasis on “multi-domain synergy”, the idea that future conflicts will not be confined to land battles but will span cyber, space, electronic and human cognitive spaces. As the exercise concluded, officials said the Command now stands better equipped, united and prepared to face emergent threats with strategic foresight, according to a PTI report.
