The Queen Mother, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, passed away at the age of 93, according to the Royal Household Bureau. Since September 7, 2019, Her Majesty has been receiving medical care at Thai Red Cross Society's King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, the palace statement stated. The medical staff had been keeping an eye on and treating several illnesses over the years.
The palace also announced that King Vajiralongkorn has asked members of the royal family to observe a year-long mourning period.
53-year-old housekeeper of the Royal family, Sasis Putthasit in Bangkok, told AFP, "I knew this day would come since she had been unwell for some time and was in her 90s. But I didn’t expect it to be today," She also added. "I feel sad because she was like a mother to the nation- and now she’s gone."
Now, the late Queen Mother Sirikit is being taken on her last journey from Chulalongkorn Hospital to the Grand Palace, where she will lie in state.
