According to an ABP Live report, Gaurav Dayal, Home Secretary, has passed an order, as per which, to stop spreading rumours and to ensure peace in the region, this step has been undertaken. The suspension of service also covers SMS services, mobile internet, WiFi, and data.

What is the ‘I love Mohammad’ row about?

How did it start?

This incident came to life first in Rawatpur of Kanpur, where, during a Barawafat Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession, a banner was put up. This poster read, ‘I love Mohammad, ’ which later attracted strong criticism from local Hindu groups, as per ABPLive report.

Reason

A protest was called, which was later cancelled, invoking a situation of anger that led to a severe escalation of the situation and violence. According to the ABPLive report, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had defended the slogan, saying, “Saying ‘I Love Muhammad’ is not a crime.”

Escalation of the tension

On September 26, when police clashed with a crowd outside a mosque. About 2,000 people were confronted by the police, resulting in stone pelting, escalating the tension in the region.

Arrests

As a aftermath of the incident, police have apprehended 81 protesters who were allegedly linked to this violence. Post which, security has been increased in Bareilly to maintain peace during the Dussehra.

Latest Update

As ABP Live’s report read, keeping the upcoming Dusshera in mind, the Internet has been suspended along with SMS services, mobile internet, WiFi, and data services from October 2 till October 3, affecting 4 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the PTI report, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Deepak Kumar Chaudhary said in a notification, “All district magistrates, deputy collectors, police, and administrative officials must discharge their responsibilities seriously. Any lapse will invite stern action.”

Also, an ABP Live report added, the seniormost cleric of Ala Hazrat Dargah, Maulana Ahsan Razan Khan in Bareilly, has urged Muslims to reach home peacefully after the Friday prayer.
