The probe into Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death has taken a dramatic turn. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police CID on Friday arrested two of his personal security officers (PSOs), Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya who were in connection with the case, as per the reports by ANI.
SIT Chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed the arrests, calling them “a crucial breakthrough” in the ongoing investigation.
Financial trail under scanner
Sources told ANI that investigators uncovered suspicious financial transactions exceeding ₹1 crore linked to the two PSOs’ bank accounts. The arrests follow a widening probe that has already seen the detention of event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager Siddharth Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, and Zubeen’s cousin, suspended APS officer Sandipan Garg.
Earlier this week, Sandipan Garg was suspended from service after being arrested by the SIT. Officials are now probing possible financial and criminal conspiracies behind the late singer’s untimely death.
Allegations of poisoning surface
Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most celebrated voices, died in Singapore on September 19, a day before his scheduled performance at the Northeast India Festival. While initial reports cited a scuba diving accident, new allegations have emerged suggesting foul play.
His bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami recently claimed that Zubeen might have been poisoned, reigniting public outrage and demands for a thorough investigation.
