The Lokpal of India, the country’s anti-corruption watchdog, is facing a wave of public anger after issuing a tender to procure seven BMW 330 Li (Long Wheel Base). The tender notice, dated October 16, 2025, calls for bids from “reputed agencies” to supply the luxury sedans, each costing upwards of ₹60 lakh.

“The Lokpal of India invites open tenders from reputed Agencies for the supply of seven BMW 3 Series Li Cars to the Lokpal of India,” the notice read.

The bid submission window opened on October 17 and will close on November 6 at 3 pm, with evaluation scheduled to begin the next day.

Lokpal tender imposes strict timelines, training burden on vendors

The Lokpal has also demanded that the vehicles be delivered “preferably within two weeks” and under no circumstances later than 30 days from the supply order. “No extension of time will be given,” the notice warns.

The tender also mandates that the selected vendor conduct a “comprehensive practical and theoretical training programme for the drivers and other designated staff members” to be completed within 15 days of delivery. The training must last at least seven days and include both “classroom sessions and on-road practical sessions.”

The notice also specifies that all costs for the training, from trainer fees and travel to accommodation, fuel, and logistics, should be “borne exclusively by the vendor.”

Netizens questioning the moral standing of an anti-corruption body seeking luxury cars

Activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan posted on X, expressing, “The institution of Lokpal has been ground to dust by the Modi govt, by keeping it vacant for many years & then appointing servile members who are not bothered by graft & are happy with their luxuries. They are now buying 70L BMW cars for themselves!”

Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed also slammed the decision, calling, “Lokpal wants to buy 7 luxury BMW cars worth ₹5 crore for itself. This is the same institution that was supposed to fight corruption after the so-called ‘India Against Corruption’ movement — a movement backed by the RSS and designed only to bring down the Congress government.”
