Chennai Super Kings could be heading towards a major change in their coaching setup after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign. Reports suggest former India head coach Rahul Dravid is being considered as a possible replacement for longtime CSK coach Stephen Fleming.
Rahul Dravid emerges as a strong candidate
Fleming has been one of the most successful coaches in IPL history and has played a massive role in building Chennai’s legacy over the years. Under his guidance, CSK became one of the most consistent franchises in the tournament. According to The New Indian Express, the CSK management remains measured in its approach and is not expected to make any rushed call. Likely, a formal decision on Fleming's future will only come once the full IPL season has concluded, the CSK management is exploring fresh ideas ahead of the next season, and Dravid’s name has emerged as a strong option. The former India captain recently completed his tenure as head coach of the Indian team and remains one of the most respected figures in world cricket because of his calm leadership and ability to develop young talent.
Chennai eye long-term rebuilding project
The report added that Chennai could be preparing for a transition period after relying on experienced players for several seasons. The franchise is believed to be looking at a long-term project focused on rebuilding the squad with younger Indian players while maintaining its strong core culture.
