Jasprit Bumrah endured one of the most difficult seasons of his IPL career as the Mumbai Indians' pace spearhead finished IPL 2026 with single-digit wickets for the first time. Known for delivering under pressure and dominating batters across formats, Bumrah struggled to find rhythm throughout the campaign. Despite continuing to bowl in crucial moments for the Mumbai Indians, the star pacer failed to produce his usual match-winning impact, raising questions about workload, fitness, and fatigue after a packed international schedule.

A rare dip in Bumrah’s IPL numbers

The 2026 season turned out to be a forgettable one statistically for Bumrah. Reports suggested that the fast bowler managed only four wickets in 13 matches, making it the poorest wicket tally of his IPL journey. While his economy rate remained decent compared to several bowlers in the tournament, wickets dried up consistently, and the Mumbai Indians often missed breakthroughs during important stages of matches.

Cricket experts highlighted that Bumrah lacked his usual sharpness during death overs, an area where he has traditionally dominated for years. Opposition batters appeared more comfortable against him this season, while injuries and heavy workload also reportedly played a role in affecting his rhythm.

Mumbai Indians continue to back Bumrah

Mumbai Indians’ support staff continued to back Bumrah despite the disappointing numbers. Coach Mahela Jayawardene reportedly revealed that the pacer carried a niggle from India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign into the IPL season. The franchise management also monitored his workload carefully during the tournament to avoid further fitness concerns.

Batting coach Kieron Pollard defended Bumrah and reminded fans that even world-class players go through lean phases. Despite the struggles, Bumrah remains one of the finest bowlers in modern cricket and an irreplaceable figure for both Mumbai Indians and the Indian team. With international assignments approaching, the focus will now shift towards recovery and regaining peak rhythm ahead of another crucial season.
