As Durga Puja excitement builds, concerns over severe rainfall due to heavy cyclone are easing. Alipore Weather Department has issued new updates for pandal hoppers.
Cyclone Approaches Odisha, Weakens Quickly
According to the weather office, the low-pressure system entered Odisha near Gopalpur early Saturday at around 4:30 AM, moving towards Chhattisgarh. As a result, the likelihood of heavy rainfall from Shashti to Ashtami has significantly reduced. Light rain is still expected during these days. However, on Dashami, heavy rainfall is anticipated in several districts of South Bengal.
The low-pressure system is expected to weaken considerably over the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rainfall cannot be completely avoided. On Saturday, after 11:15 AM, a 2–3-hour spell of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely in parts of East and West Medinipur and Jhargram. Gusty winds may accompany the rainfall, reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h.
