Due to continuous rain just days before Bengalis' favourite Durga Puja, Kolkata is in a flood-like condition. By Tuesday afternoon, several key areas remain waterlogged.

Like in Salt Lake Sector Five, Kolkata's Silicon Valley, the same scene was evident. Early in the morning, several areas of Sector Five were waterlogged. Since morning, people trying to reach their offices have faced severe hardship. The waterlogged water in Sector Five’s precinct allowed many buses to ferry passengers, but they could not go far.

Those who had ventured out in their own cars or motorcycles also faced trouble navigating the pooled water in Salt Lake Sector Five. Traffic, including buses, auto-rickshaws, and taxis, came to a standstill in the standing water.

But it just wasn’t with Sector Five; the entire Salt Lake area saw the same scene. There are several offices in Salt Lake Sector Five. However, compared with other days, Tuesday saw far fewer office-goers due to the heavy rain. Yet those who did come to offices faced trouble right in the morning.

In several spots in Salt Lake Sector Five, rows of food stalls line the roadside. Heavy rain had flooded many shops, and in most places, shops were barely able to open.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, Mayor Firhad Hakim reached the civic body’s control room. From there, he advised city residents to exercise caution. He said, “I’ve asked KMDA to help drain the water from Salt Lake.”
