On Thursday, the Supreme Court expressed that the Election Commission of India(ECI) is obligated to publish the list of deleted voters and the list of recurring voters of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that has recently been conducted in Bihar.
The hearing of a batch of petitions took place before the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymlaya Bagchi. This also included the petition filed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) NGO that challenged the Bihar.
During the hearing, the petitioner's side prayed for the publication of the final list from the SIR conducted in Bihar. Appearing for the petitioners, advocate Prashant Bhushan submitted before the bench, "Elections are imminent now and this Court can't do much to change the list, but at least the list and deletions should be published."
Justice Surya Kant stated, "They [ECI] know their responsibility and after doing addition and deletion, they are bound to publish it and the matter is not closed." He also added that all the political parties and polling agents should have the final list at their disposal.
While senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, appearing on behalf of the ECI, argued that even without the Court's order, the list would have been published, according to a Bar and Bench report.
