Monday, 18th August: Actress and former Congress MP Ramya expressed her appreciation for the High court’s order to cancel the bail that was granted to actor Darshan by the Karnataka High Court in the murder case of Renukaswami.
“I appreciate the Supreme Court’s judgement. Everyone is equal before the law”, said Ramya while talking to ANI. She also welcomed the order as this sends a clear message to the public at large that no one is above the law.
Last week the Supreme Court overruled the Karnataka High court’s order granting bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thogudeepa and his co-accused. Bench of Justice J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan criticized the Karnataka High court’s decision to grant the bail order to be premature and mechanistic and deemed inappropriate.
The actress was found welcoming the court’s ruling as she shares the same feeling with the public that the bailment was not granted in an appropriate way. She hailed the Supreme court’s statement where it’s been reminded that no individual is above the law regardless of their status, taking it to her social media handle.
What was the judgement?
The bench came to this ruling based on well-founded allegations of murder preceded by kidnapping and torture of a fan Renukaswami, stressing that in such crimes granting bail must be considered through a great deal of judicial scrutiny and keeping social safety and personal freedom in mind as Darshan’s prominence might give him the ability to tamper with evidence or influence the witness of the case.
After the Supreme Court’s order Darshan and his co-accused was again apprehended, initially he was taken into custody for allegedly kidnapping, keeping her locked, torturing finally murdering of a fan Renukaswamy, 33-year-old woman allegedly for sending inappropriate text to Darshan’s girlfriend in 2024, under various sections of Indian Penal Code.
