The CBI special court in Alipore became a heated ground on Tuesday due to arguments between CBI lawyers and lawyers of the accused Kalyanmoy Gangopadhyay during testimony in the SSC Group-C recruitment corruption case. Two CBI lawyers left the courtroom after shouting and creating a commotion. Judge Bishwarup Seth expressed displeasure and ordered the testimony to continue without the CBI lawyers.
An officer from the Board of Secondary Education appeared as a witness that day. He was the fourth among eight witnesses. Kalyanmoy's lawyer Suman Gangopadhyay questioned him about his recruitment process. He alleged that CBI lawyers started shouting while questioning that officer. Suman claimed that one of them was repeatedly obstructing and even began personal attacks.
To control the situation, another lawyer of Kalyanmoy named Tirthangkar Roy tried to explain by holding the CBI lawyer's hand. It didn't help, and the courtroom became heated with arguments. The judge demanded information about his recruitment from the CBI lawyer. Without showing that information, the two lawyers of the central investigating agency left the courtroom while shouting. The annoyed judge ordered the testimony to continue without them.
CBI lawyers dismissed all allegations. They counter-claimed that they were obstructed while cross-examining the witness. CBI lawyers have informed higher authorities about the matter. The CBI SP reached the court and learned about the issue from officials and lawyers.
