Winter still has some time to knock on our doors, but the skin has become extremely rough and dry. Many people believe that dry skin means dehydration. However, various studies indicate that this notion is completely incorrect. Dry skin does not necessarily mean dehydrated skin. There are different types of skin. Dermatologists explain that dryness is also a type of skin condition. When the amount of sebum in the skin decreases, it becomes extremely dry.

Sebum is the skin's natural oil. There are several reasons behind this reduction of sebum. For some, it is genetic; for others, it is age-related. Road dust, sand, and dirt can also cause this problem. On the other hand, skin dehydration is caused by not drinking enough water. Lack of humidity can also make the skin dry.

Excessive use of makeup or staying in bright light for long periods can also make the skin dehydrated. Although the symptoms of water deficiency or dryness in the skin may seem similar, the issues are completely different.

How do you know if your skin is dry or dehydrated?

Many people feel tightness in their skin after bathing. Thin skin starts peeling from the face. Wrinkles may also appear on rough skin. However, all these symptoms become more pronounced in dehydrated skin. This problem cannot be solved only from the outside. Since physiological processes are involved in dry skin problems, it is not possible to solve them only by using cosmetics from the outside.

Along with drinking adequate amounts of water, the supply of vitamin A, E, and fatty acids must be maintained. For dehydrated skin, aloe vera, ceramide, glycerin, or hyaluronic acid can be used.
