Your pet has grown older and with that, its lively vibrant energy has faded. Lethargy seems to be the order of the day. This change in your pet's behavior can be concerning. However, it's entirely natural for pets to gradually mellow with age. According to Veterinarians, as animals enter their twilight years, they become susceptible to illness such as diabetes and cancer. Therefore, extra care is necessary as your pet grows older. But how should one provide this enhanced care?

As pets age, their appetite often decrease. To counteract this, it's important to increase their protein intake. Fish, meat, and eggs should feature prominently in their diet. Conversely, salt content should be reduced, while chocolate and biscuits must be eliminated entirely. A higher fruit intake is crucial; apples and bananas are excellent choices. Fruits are rich in vitamins, which will provide essential nutrients for your aging companion.

As your pet inches towards old age, you may notice a gradual decline in hearing and vision. It's crucial, however, to resist the urge to self-medicate. Instead, consult a veterinarian who may recommend necessary tests.

Much like humans, pets can experience melancholy as they age. The responsibility is on you to maintain your pet's emotional well-being. Isolation can lead to depression, so strive to keep your aging companion in good spirits. If need be, consider purchasing some new toys to lift their mood.
