Durga Puja is a time many prefer to spend at home, enjoying the festivities with loved ones. But once the celebrations are over, the urge to travel takes over. However, after Puja expenses, it’s natural to look for affordable destinations. If you haven’t finalized your post-Puja travel plans yet, here are some nearby budget-friendly spots that promise peace, beauty and rejuvenation.

Duarsini: A hidden gem in Purulia

Duarsini, located in Purulia, is fast becoming a favourite destination for nature lovers. Surrounded by sal and piyal forests, this small tribal village near the Satgudum River is perfect for a peaceful retreat. The weather during this time of the year is especially pleasant, making it an ideal getaway spot before winter sets in.

Government cottages are available in the foothills of the Duarsini hills — though you’ll need to book in advance. Alternatively, you can stay at one of the many hotels in Purulia. To reach Duarsini, take a train from Kolkata to Ghatsila, and then hire a car to reach your destination.

Garh Panchkot: A historical escape

Situated in the Neturia village of Purulia district, Garh Panchkot offers a unique blend of nature and history. The site is surrounded by attractions like Baranti Lake, Panchet and Maithon dams, Joychandi Hills, the Panchratna Temple, and the ruins of the ancient Kalyaneswari Temple and Jor Bangla Temple.

Numerous resorts and government lodges are available near the Garh Panchkot hills. You can reach the place by train from Howrah to Adra or Purulia stations and then hire a car. Those preferring road trips can drive directly to Garh Panchkot.

Buraghutu: A peaceful riverside retreat

While Mukutmanipur in Bankura has already become a tourist hotspot, nearby Buraghutu remains less explored and quieter. This tribal village, located on the banks of the Kangsabati River, is ideal for those seeking serenity and simplicity.

You can take a morning walk to the Mukutmanipur Dam or simply relax by the riverside. To reach Buraghutu, take a train from Howrah to Bankura and continue your journey to Mukutmanipur by car. If you prefer more comfort, you can choose to stay in one of Mukutmanipur’s hotels while exploring Buraghutu during the day.
