The word Pradosh means twilight, that is, the moment before evening descends. This time is known as the best time for Shiva worship. If by fortune, Pradosh tithi falls on a Monday, that day is considered an auspicious moment for Shiva worship.

This year, Shiva Pradosh Vrat falls on Monday, November 3, 2025. Trayodashi tithi begins on November 3 at 5:07 AM. Trayodashi tithi ends on November 4 at 2:05 AM.
According to the Puranas, when Lakshmi left heaven and took refuge in the netherworld, heaven and earth became devoid of prosperity. Then, on Vishnu's advice, the gods and demons together began the Samudra Manthan. Eventually, when all valuable treasures emerged from the ocean churning, poison began to emerge. Consequently, to save their lives, gods and demons sought refuge with Mahadev. Then, to protect the world and universe, Shiva held the Halahala poison in his throat. The time when all this happened was Pradosh Kaal. Therefore, Pradosh Kaal is considered the ideal time for Shiva worship.
