Delhi holds the top position in terms of pollution, then Kolkata stands fourth. Even before winter sets in, the sky is getting covered with 'smog' (smoke and fog). Air quality is gradually deteriorating. Along with this, respiratory problems are increasing proportionally. During this transitional weather, catching a cold and cough-related problem becomes a common problem. Those who have COPD problems are facing even more complex situations. However, nutritionists say that jaggery and lukewarm water help clean the pollutants accumulated in the lungs.

What does jaggery contain?

Jaggery is made from the juice of sugarcane, dates or palm. Made from completely natural ingredients, it contains numerous essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron. It is rich in antioxidants, which also help strengthen metabolism and immunity. Jaggery has been used in Ayurvedic medicine since ancient times. It helps purify blood, relieve throat infection-related discomfort, and remove toxins accumulated in the respiratory tract. When jaggery is mixed with lukewarm water and consumed, old accumulated mucus in the chest comes out easily. Various modern studies have also mentioned the use of jaggery for maintaining good respiratory health. However, this is never a substitute for medical treatment; it is merely a home remedy.

How to consume it?

Mix one teaspoon of jaggery with lukewarm water. Drinking this beverage on an empty stomach in the morning provides more benefits. Many people can also mix a pinch of turmeric and black pepper with it, which can also prove beneficial. Even if you cannot drink it daily, you can sip this beverage at least three days a week. However, those whose blood sugar levels are on the rise should definitely consult their doctor before consuming this drink.
