The location is the place which witnessed the historic Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed. The gathering came together to recognise victims of extreme poverty. The declaration spread a powerful message which said poverty is a violation of human rights, not a natural condition.
The global and Indian context
Global poverty remains a constant challenge. The factors affecting the growth in poverty are conflicts, climate change, and economic disparities. The Indian government prioritises inclusive growth, which is practised through programs like PMAY, MGNREGA, and Skill India.
October 17 is a date that motivates individuals, governments, and organisations to come together to build a world where no one is left behind. The eradication of poverty is a step closer to attaining true equality, justice, and shared prosperity.
