This protected forest area has been developed with approximately 159 square kilometres of jungle spread across vast areas of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts. Being located between the Teesta and Mahananda rivers, the natural beauty here is absolutely unique.

This destination is ideal if you want to spend a few days in nature's lap away from the city's hustle and bustle. You won't see tigers here, but if you're lucky, you might spot elephants, gaur, leopards, deer and various other wildlife. Such a variety of nature in one place is rarely seen. It also has importance as an elephant corridor. Besides, the fog in the jungle at dawn, combined with bird calls, creates a strange, magical atmosphere.

How to reach?

The nearest city is Siliguri. You can reach by train and then take a car for the remaining journey. You can easily reach it by car or local taxi.

By rail via New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and then about 30–45 minutes by car from there.

There are several homestays and resorts in Sukna and Latpanchar around the sanctuary. Besides, hotels of various budgets are available in Siliguri. Many people choose homestays located amidst tea gardens, where you get a mixed experience of hills and forests.
