You’ve decided to travel to Sikkim after the Puja holidays and may have already booked your train tickets. For Bengalis, Sikkim is one of the most loved travel destinations. Situated in the lap of the Himalayas, this small state always finds a place on the top of the holiday list. While March–April in summer has its own charm, October–November is regarded as the ideal time to explore Sikkim. Let’s find out which places you cannot miss.
Gurudongmar Lake
The allure of Gurudongmar Lake in North Sikkim is hard to resist. However, in peak winter, heavy snowfall often blocks the roads, making it difficult to reach. Located at an altitude of 17,800 feet, the lake is one of Sikkim’s most stunning spots. Alongside Gurudongmar, you can also visit Kalapathar. Do note that a permit is required to travel to Gurudongmar.
Yumthang
From Lachung in North Sikkim, you can set out for Gurudongmar. Yumthang Valley offers the chance to also visit Zero Point. The village of Lachung itself is very picturesque. While many travellers stay only one night here, spending two days allows you to enjoy the natural scenic beauty to the fullest.
Tarey Bhir
South Sikkim is no less beautiful. Tarey Bhir, a charming village, sits at an elevation of 10,000 feet. The pathway here stretches along the ridge of a mountain, with pine forests lining the sides and greenery all around. The serene surroundings make it a perfect spot to relax.
Yuksom
One of the quietest corners of Sikkim, Yuksom is known for its solitude and peace. The crowds are minimal, and it houses an old Buddhist monastery. Yuksom is also the starting point of the famous Goecha La trek. Birdwatchers especially love this place as it sees a wide variety of species. Many trekkers begin their journeys from here.
From the high-altitude magic of Gurudongmar to the quiet charm of Yuksom, Sikkim has something for every traveler. A post-Puja trip here promises both beauty and peace.
